Moiré Motion Illusion

You must try this illusion. The horse appears to gallop on your paper as you slide a transparency with a grating printed on it over the image.

Materials

• An overhead transparency sheet that you can print on. Copy shops can photocopy onto transparency sheets if you don't have any. As a last resort, you can print the images onto regular paper and hold them in front of a bright light.
  

Steps

1. Print out the pattern once on paper and again on an overhead transparency.
   
2. Cut out the rectangular grid of lines from the transparency and place it onto the picture of the horse on the piece of paper.
   
3. Slide the grid from left to right over the image to see the horse gallop.
